Swannanoa – Roger Sherman Porter, 49, of Swannanoa died Sunday, March 14, in a local hospital.
A native of Asheville, he had attended Clyde A. Erwin High School. He was a Navy veteran and a member of the National Rifle Association and Green Memorial United Methodist Church. He was the inventor and held a patent for a Universal Grease Fitting for automotive and mechanical purposes. He was employed as a security guard with Security Forces, Inc.
He was a son of the late Johnny and Thelma Hampton Porter.

William “W.C” Carroll Rogers, age 74, passed away at his home surrounded by those he loved on January 8, 2024. W.C. was born August 7, 1949, in Buncombe County to the late Thomas Hoyle Rogers and the late Lethia Sluder Rogers and loved growing up among the mountains where he was born and raised.
W.C. was a well-known figure in the Leicester Community. As we recall his great passion as a devoted farmer and cattleman, we remember his ability to garden and raise all types of crops and vegetables, flowers, all types of berries which he hand-picked himself. He was born in Leicester, NC on September 7, 1949 and was the son of the late Floyd and Annie Buckner Rogers. He was married to Parry Rosen Rogers for 43 years. James "Kaywood" Smart went home to be with our heavenly Father on July 30, 2018. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and adventures spent with family and friends. Kaywood will always be remembered for his big smile, love of his family, and love for corvettes. He cherished the many friendships he acquired over his lifetime.
