Swannanoa – Roger Sherman Porter, 49, of Swannanoa died Sunday, March 14, in a local hospital.
A native of Asheville, he had attended Clyde A. Erwin High School. He was a Navy veteran and a member of the National Rifle Association and Green Memorial United Methodist Church. He was the inventor and held a patent for a Universal Grease Fitting for automotive and mechanical purposes. He was employed as a security guard with Security Forces, Inc.
He was a son of the late Johnny and Thelma Hampton Porter.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Norman Porter; two stepdaughters, Dana Corsetti of Dothan, Ala., and Brenda Sellers of Miami, Fla; two sisters, Janice Wagner of Littleton, Colo., and Carol White of Frisco, Texas; and one step-grandchild.
Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Kathryn U. Tart officiating.
