Jerry Eugene Evans

Marital status: Married
Comment: Within a year of graduation, I had joined the military (USAF) and left NC for strange and foreign places.  I did not return to NC permanently until the late seventies after completing military service and graduating from college.

I moved to Charlotte seeking job opportunities, where I met and married my wife Jan.  We have been married for over 31 years and have three wonderful children (successful, employed, college graduates) and one grandson.  We have been living in Raleigh for the past 30+ years.  For the last 20 years I have been an independent safety consultant (J. Evans & Associates, Inc.) for the construction industry.

Wanda Catholeen Franklin (Ballard)

Comment: Being married to the Co-chair of our reunion committee, Dick(ie) Franklin, I am being pressured into giving an account of the past 50 years.  So, I take pen to paper, because my primary uses for the computer are email, Google, and on-line shopping (much to the distress of aforementioned husband).

Following graduation from Erwin, I attended and graduated from Appalachian State University.  My career in Education began in Buncombe County.  Then Dick Franklin and I married, go figure, as we ignored each other in high school.  Dick’s employer, Southern Bell, moved us to Atlanta in 1973.  Forty-four years later we are still in the metro-Atlanta area.

After our move to Atlanta, I began teaching in the DeKalb County Schools.  Little did I know, until I read her bio, that  one of our Erwin classmates, Rose Drupiewski  Porterfield, was also teaching in the same school system!

I attended Emory University as a graduate student, receiving several graduate degrees in the Division of Education Studies.  I became a reading specialist in DeKalb County.

In October, 1981, our one and only son, Kenneth Bradley, was born.  When Ken got a little older, I did various things .  I taught at a local community college and served as a consultant on a government contract with the US Department of Ed to service the 8 states of the SE in the Chapter 1/Title 1 program.  A sobering moment for me was when I walked up the steps of the NC Dept. of Ed building in Raleigh to share my expertise with the state department administrators.  When the contract ended, I became a private consultant with Chapter 1, primarily in the States of Virginia and Georgia.  Travel got old, so I began doing private tutoring at a couple of private schools in Atlanta.

Our son played football  at The Westminster Schools,  and at Davidson College.  We never missed a game.  As we cheered the teams and Dick studied the game, my eyes were glued on our one and only, ready to take on any of those big brutes that might dare to bruise my son!  Unfortunately,  there are some things a mom can’t control.  During Ken’s football career, he had surgery on both shoulders.

Fast forward to the next stage of life which was spent caring for my Mom and Step-Dad, first while they lived in Asheville , then as we moved my Mom near us in Georgia in 2010, until she passed away on December 17, 2014.

During that time, I began to feel the need to “give back”.  As a result,  we opened our home for weekly Bible Study in 2003.  The Bible Study is ongoing and hopefully will continue indefinitely.  I also lead a Bible study at the assisted living facility where my Mom lived.

Dick and I continue to take every opportunity  to spend time with our son, daughter-in –law, and the cutest little 3yr old girl ever, our granddaughter, Charlotte Marie.  Our 2nd grandchild is due any minute!

We also do quite a bit of traveling.  After we travel to South Africa and Australia in 2018, we will have hit all 7 continents.  As the folks at the assisted living facility tell me, “Do it while you can”!

Oh yes, - Steve Allman, it’s so nice to be remembered “fondly” for 50 years.  Just watch your back (or your ears) at the reunion!

Carolyn Margaret Frisbee (Wells)

Spouse's Name: Ronnie

Ellen Maleada Frisbee (Farmer)

Marital status: Married
Comment: Eddie Frisbee and I were married December 16, 1967 while Eddie was active army duty.  When Eddie returned from Vietnam in July 1969, we began the process of building a home in Leicester on the property where I was raised.  We both worked full-time jobs in the day and built our home in the evenings.  The late evening hours paid off when we were able to move into our house in October 1970.

God has richly blessed our lives in almost 50 years of marriage together.  In 1972, we welcomed our first son, Jeffrey, and in 1975 we welcomed a second son, Mark.   Both boys have made our lives complete. We are so proud of both sons on all their endeavors in their lives. Both boys attended NCSU where they each earned Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degrees.

In 2008, Jeffrey and his wife Dianne decided to move home to Leicester. Together, we started a vineyard called Addison Farms.  During the first year Jeffrey commuted to Surry Community College to study viticulture.  I feel this farming venue has been a success and will continue to grow.

Mark and his wife, Christy Cable, a speech therapist with her undergraduate degree from NCSU and a graduate degree from ECU, have remained in Raleigh since graduation. Mark has earned four patents over the course of his career. Mark and Christy have provided us with the great honor of being called grandparents to Benjamin and William.

Eddie and I both are currently retired and enjoying life on the 110-acre farm.  We both love working outside and being involved in the day-to-day activities of vineyard work. We frequently leave all work behind and travel to Raleigh to have lots of time with the grandsons.  And very often, Mark and Christy travel to the mountains so we have nothing but grand parenting time.  We free our minds and hands of labor from the vineyard.

What a wonderful life!

We among men are most richly blessed!
