1968-1971

I joined the USAF and was trained as an X-ray technician  stationed in Texas, Louisiana and Guam.

1971-1976

I bounced around bartending between the ski areas of  Vermont in the winter and the beaches of Rhode Island in the summer.  I went to Florida one winter and never left.

1976-1980

I moved to Maderia Beach, FL.  While working the bar one night an angel (Rita "Ricki" O'Neil) walked in.  That long hair down to her waist, those Audrey Hephburn eyes, the most beautiful complete package I had ever seen.  The hardest job I ever had was getting her to rescue me from the bars that was 37 magical years ago.

1980-Now

I started working in construction and got my General Contractors License in 1987.

I have been working with Southern Plazas Construction since as the Qualifying Agent, Vice President and Site Superintendent.

We are a design and build company.  Our major projects have been Medical office buildings, Pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities with a few custom homes thrown in.

I have been trying to work my way out of a job for a few years now but something seems to come up that I just can't refuse.  I try not to work too hard as they say "I love work, I can stand around and watch it all day".

Fun Stuff

After Ricki retired from Dental Hygiene a few years ago we play golf at least twice weekly.  We take as many cruises as we can (going back to Alaska soon).  I spend the rest of my free time gardening (what would life be without home grown tomatoes), cooking, BBQ ,  trying to learn how to play the guitar  and playing golf again and again.

I used to play tennis almost daily until I ruptured an Achilles tendon in 1999 and had bilateral knee replacements in 2009 which slowed me down. I  don"t want to wear them out and have to go through it again.

If anyone has to have knee replacements do them both at the same time.  It only hurts once that way.

Thought

Everyone deserves the fun and full life that I have been blessed to enjoy.  I don"t know how or why but  I am the lucky one.

Comment: Moved to Bradenton, Florida the day after graduation, to  attend school in Tampa.

Who would have thought I would have gone anywhere to go to school? Of course school didn't last long. Recieved word that my brother, Don was entering  the  Army. Came home and worked in the carpet and tile business until I followed Don into the Army. That's when my real education started.

Left Army in 1970 and returned to Asheville  to return to the carpet and tile business.

1973 was hired with the U.S.Postal Service and  worked a total of 33 years  in the Asheville area. Retired in 2006 with a total of 35 years counting military and postal service time.

I have three children, two girls and one boy from a previous marriage. I now have four

grandchildren, hoping for a fifth from my son.

1989 married Libby Robinson of Marion, N. C.

Our activies are now based around our church. Choir, Nursing Home Ministry and other monthly activities.
